Just because I'm a curious person and thought it'd make an interesting thread:
1. What is the reason you chose the breeds you have or simply am thinking of breeding?
2. Have what you focus on/specialize in changed since you started, and if so how and why?
3. If you were to add a breed that do not yet have a registry, what would it be and why?
4. What's your favourite breed that you do not breed yourself?
5. What's your "soft spot" when looking at sales horses? Colours/markings/body shape/nice screenshots/horse names/something else?

1. The reason I chose these breeds is that they're both from germany, and I love the look on both of them (Westphalian & Oldenburg) 2. No I don't think so 3. I wouldn't want to add another right now, but if I had to it would be Lipizzaner again. 4. Hanoverians, definately. And akhal-tekes! 5. Bald faces and stockings, also black and chestnut horses

1. The ideal Hanoverian is a well mannered, trainable, and hard-working horse. They're eager to please and enjoyable to work with (for the most part..it's still a warmblood and you're going to run across bad apples sometimes). I've never actually ridden one myself (always TBs), but they're my dream horse, so that's why I chose them.
2. Nope. Hanoverians all the way. Although I've made a few other breeds too.
3. Hm..my second favorite breed would probably be the Quarter Horse..and there's a registry for that..and a registry for the Belgian warmblood..soo..all my faves have been taken!
4. QH's, most definitely, or the Belgian Warmblood lol..or Palominos/Paints for color breeds. I do love them so!
5. Strikingness, mostly, but I also consider breeding when purchasing horses. How well will a mare cross with my stud? That sort of thing. I like to consider conformation and how crossing one shape with my stud will work out for the foal..basically I always keep the offspring in mind when considering buying a horse.

1. I chose my Standardbreds because it was the best out of the remaining registries available on Equus (:
2. I've changed somewhat. I've started breeding crosses, specifically with paints and appaloosas. It's interesting to see a horse with Standardbred conformation and appaloosa coloring!
3. I have nooo idea. I can't think of any that don't have a registry!
4. I have a soft spot for appaloosas. If I could run an appaloosa registry, I'd be a VERY happy camper!
5. I usually look at coloring, and then conformation. Coloring is definitely a big one though, because coat colors are sooo important to me.

1. At some point I saw a picture of a Gelderlander in a book... and I fell in love! Their faces just have so much character (I sure do love me a big old roman nose). I doubt I'll have the chance to own one in real life, because the breed's population is pretty low, sooo... 2. Not yet! I've been feeling veeery tempted by all the Arabians and Hanoverians that folks are breeding though. I might consider doing some Gelderlander crosses just because I can. 3. All I can say is: I wish we could make ponies in Sims. And if we could, I would want to have every pony registry ever. 4. Like I've said, those Arabians and Hanoverians people are making are rather lovely I also love looking at very colorful horses. 5. I haven't done much buying of sales horses... I'm trying to stay focused However, when I look (and I do an awful lot of looking), quality of screenshots is really important because they influence my first impressions of everything important (conformation, color, personality, etc) SO much.

1. I've loved Arabians for as long as I can remember. Those heads! *drools* As for Hanoverians, I wanted to have a more traditional sporting horse breeding program and Hanos always struck me as slightly more refined, less bulky than some of the other warmbloods, which I like, plus the Hanoverian sims-community is very active, which is a plus. I do have Akhal-Tekes coming as well, which I chose because I love their elegance and flashy coats, and because, as a fellow desert horse, they go well with the Arabs.
2. Yes, I've added Hanoverians and Akhal-Tekes. Or will be adding them soon, anyway!
3. I think my favourites have registries? Probably?
4. Trakehners! I'm thinking about getting into them eventually but . . . we'll see.
5. Colouring and conformation, for sure. Nice screenshots really sell a horse for me though. The horse in question could have the nicest conformation and be gorgeously coloured, but if it's a grainy screenshot, I won't know that.

1. I think Hanoverians are gorgeous animals. Not only are they beautiful, but they are an incredible sport horse -- capable of almost anything. They are powerful and athletic, yet they aren't stubborn or dangerous to be around. They're the perfect blend of the best breeds.
2. My man focus has really always been about quality over quantity. When I buy horses from other places I seriously look at who the parents were, how they're raised and their shape and color. If its not what I want to include in my own lines, I won't take it.
3. All of my favorite breeds already have a registry, sadly. Otherwise, I would take them.
4. Quarter Horses. I grew up around them and I know that they are exceptional athletes. They have incredible spirits and are very personable, trainable, and friendly.
5. Faces. Even though they are only pixels, if I don't like a horses' face, I won't apply for it.

1. I think they are most beautiful breeds in the world . 2. Not really, but I have became more interested in certain breeds such as Paints. 3. I think that one registry is enough for me right now. 4. Hanoverians, Andalucians and Finnhorses. Im going to breed Finnhorses, but not yet. 5. Colours and markings. I like horses to have lot of layers and markings in their coats. Also If Im to buy an adult horse the "soft spot" would be their body shape.

This is such an interesting read, thanks everyone for sharing! I'll add my own answers even if I haven't actually started yet.
1. All the breeds I've got my mind 100 % set on I've seen irl, and therefore I have a tendency to prefer classic European horses.
3. North Swedish, as I've known many irl and the day I'm able to get a horse irl that's most likely what I'll end up with.
4. Hanoverians because of all the many gorgeous pictures people put up, but otherwise probably paints or appaloosas?
5. Dappling, definitely, on whatever colour and all breeds. I also like baldface and snip a lot.
